When I was growing up the idea of higher education was a dream. Tv and movies made it the epitome of what it meant to be an American teen; you go to a place of higher education because it's part of the American dream and a stepping stone to a better life than our parents could ever dream of. Yet, as I've been in the system I realize that it isn't just a dream for me, but for many others as well, and it's getting harder to make that dream a reality with the direction higher education is going. It bogles my mind that we allow greed to come before untapped human potential, the idea that a man/women out there has the cure for cancer or the way to power our cities with green technology, yet will never reach because their lack of access is baffling. Higher education shouldn't just be a dream but DAMN HUMAN RIGHT. I don't simply mean higher education that aims to make everyone a doctor or lawyer, but that encourages the idea that we are meant to shine, not in the name of arrogance, but for the sake of a better human race. I know that within my lifetime we can truly make this dream a reality.
