The Good, The Bad, The Ugly: Apple Watch Ultra 6 Months Later

I’m excited to share my thoughts on the Apple Watch Ultra after using it for a six months. I have to say, this is definitely one of my favorite gadgets that I purchased in 2022. Now, I know I was caught up in the hype of Apple’s marketing, but I still stand by my decision to get this watch.

Let’s start by addressing the elephant in the room - the orange button. While it looks amazing and still appears brand new, I have to admit that I don’t find it very useful. The limited number of apps that utilize it maybe low because of the high price point, which means fewer developers have an incentive to utilize the button. While it’s great for first-party apps from Apple, it doesn’t have much use beyond that. So, don’t be fooled by its shiny appearance.

Moving on to the crown, I’ve experienced some issues with it getting jammed from time to time. It’s not difficult to clean, but it can be inconvenient when you don’t have access to warm running water, then you might be SOL.

As for the software, I have to say that it’s not overly impressive. Like other Apple products, they aim to cater to regular users and don’t deviate much from their established ecosystem. So, don’t expect any drastic changes in the software experience.

Despite these minor drawbacks, there are still some things that I absolutely love about the Ultra.

The durability is just mind-blowing. I’ve accidentally banged and scratched it, and even dropped it from high elevations, but the glass still looks brand new. I wish more products Apple products were titanium.

The size is perfect for my wrist, and I love the weight and build quality. And, of course, the battery life is incredible. Once you’ve experienced it, it’s hard to go back to the regular Apple Watch version. Even when it’s down to 30%, I’m confident that it will last all day.

I do wish that they offered more color options, such as a blue or black version. That would be pretty cool. And, I also want to address the rumor about the next Apple Watch having glucose monitoring. It’s possible that the Ultra already has it, but it just hasn’t been activated yet via software.
